David's devotion, courage, victories, and loyalty all qualified David for service to Saul.

David's faithfullness was one of his qualities that made him qualifed for being the armorbearer to Saul. God knew that since he was faithful in tending to his father's sheep, David would be faithful in serving King Saul.

David was devoted to God , he was an overcomer who was'nt afraid of a fight. He served his Father whole heartedly in the lowly position of a shepherd even risking his life getting the job done .
Qualities = serventhood ,devotion to God , an overcomer , commited , couragous , loyal , faithfull and  humility  .

This is an interesting question because on TBN last night, the story of David came on and it showed how David was choosen to become King. He was the youngest and counted out among his father and siblings however, God didn't cast him aside. He saw his tenacity and devotion for hearding the sheep and being overcoming each challenge and as he got older his respect towards Saul who was trying to kill him.

David was first devoted and obedient to God.Then he devoted to his father tending the sheep. So then  when it came to ministry to King Saul he knew how to be devoted ,faithful courageous, respectful and Victorious!

His devotion and love for JESUS CHRIST that he was willing to be obedient to whatever GOD called him to. The thing that GOD spoke to me when HE brought to my mind this story  and a couple of others in the Bible as HE started speaking servanthood to me   was that if  you want to be raised or blessed by GOD to have great ministry yourself you must first put in time serving and advancing someone elses ministry. These are some of the qualities I seen in David.

In my opinion David was humble, obedient and will to serve unto death.  He placed the needs of the King before his personal needs.
