David was devoted, victorious, respectful and couragous. That is what made him qualified to service the King.

David qualified as an armorbearer first of all because he was a "man after God's own heart." He was faithfull--obedient. He had a servant heart--Samuel told him he was to be king, but he didn't hold on the that as a "right," he served King Saul, continued to shepherd the sheep, and advanced in his skills. His life had the fruit of victory and courage. He allowed God to work through him and use him.

David as we read was an adulterer, however, he repented for everything that he done which was offensive unto God's Word. He was DEVOTED, and very courageous, which I believe are two of his many qualities which qualified him for service to a King.

David showed dedication; even though Saul was trying to kill him from time to time, David still showed his loyalty by just escaping and running from him but not taking his life. This also connects with being respectful to the man or woman of God that you are suppose to serve.
David also had a willing heart (or a servant heart); even though he was next in line for the throne, he submitted to whatever Saul wanted him to do and he was successful at every assignment that was given to him.
David was also an encourager and ministered to Saul when the evil spirit came upon him and tormented him; David would play the harp so the evil spirit would be uplifted from Saul.

No quality that David had qualified him for service to the King. It was God alone who choose and qualified David.
