Serve Sowing Bountifully

church-4150.gifI absolutely believe in the power of tithing and giving back. My own experience about all the blessings I've had in my life is that the more I give away, the more that comes back. That is the way life works, and that is the way energy works. --Ken Blanchard

Remember the question earlier, "Have you received something and wondered to yourself, "It's so small; it's so little?" Well here's a quick testimony concerning that question.

A few years ago, something wonderful happened to me! But before I tell you about it, I must let you know I had to let go of the old to receive the new. Earlier that year, a new season had come to my life.

To embrace and celebrate the new season, I prayed and asked God for new clothing. One Sunday after church, I felt prompted by the Holy Spirit to give away all my clothing except a few pieces.

I gave away shoes, boots, dresses, suits, evening wear, sweaters…almost everything. If it sounds like a lot; it was. I've always given away clothing (a few pieces at a time) but never to this extent. My family was looking at me a little strange. My husband already an outrageous giver could only ask, "Are you sure?" I said, "No but what step of faith feels completely sure." I just kept giving until I was left with 2 or 3 pieces.

Not long after, a wealthy friend contacted me. She was clearing out her closet and wanted to bless me with a few things. I had forgotten about that crazy faith afternoon of giving all my clothes away. But evidently God had not. Also, a few things must be relative because I dropped by to pick up the clothing and was amazed.

There were boxes and boxes of new and gently used clothing, shoes, dresses, suits, evening wear, sweaters and more. I had to buy 2 commercial clothing racks to hold the overflow that wouldn't fit in my closet.

Before you get nervous, I'm not telling you to give away everything to be blessed. Only God can tell you that. But I am saying it's a principle of God that if you give, it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you. (Luke 6:38 NIV)

Meditation Moment: Now this I say, he who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each one must do just as he has purposed in his heart, not grudgingly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that always having all sufficiency in everything, you may have an abundance for every good deed.    --2 Corinthians 9:6-8

This is a confirmation to me -- last night as I was looking at all of my clothes I decided that I was going to give away the majority of them. I came to the conclusion that I only need possibly 2-4 tops to switch with the few pants that I have and instead of holding on to suits that I can not wear due to weight-gain, get rid of them. I don't have very many shoes but one can only were one pair at a time. I love handbags but basically use the same ones over and over. I know that this is going to be hard for me to do but because it was placed on my heart and I feel that your story about is a confirmation I must be obedient. Thank you for sharing your story.
