Have you ever found yourself too busy to do what's most important to you? If so, it may be time for you to prioritize. Read Earma's response to someone too tired to focus...
Question: Earma I need your advice. I am an armorbearer to my 1st Lady and really enjoy it. Lately, I've been so busy in other ministries that sometimes I can't focus on my servant hood. At times I am so tired from doing other activities that my 1st Lady doesn't like to ask me for help because she feels like I'm burned out already. I know she cares for my health. At times it is true but my desire is to serve the God in her wholeheartedly. I've thought about stepping down from some other ministries so that I can focus on doing my assignment. Please email me back with some advice that can help & encourage me.
In Christ,
T.H., Texas
Earma's Response:
Congratulations on serving your lst Lady. I know it can be a big job serving the 1st lady of the house. It sounds like you must prioritize. The Holy Spirit has been leading Varn and me to teach on balance all this year as well as implement it in our own lives. Our 'time' and 'ministry to others' is a gift. Therefore, God wants us to be good stewards of this gift - our time.
Quite often, we that are doers in the Body of Christ will zealously say yes on TOO many projects. I'm sure the other ministry activities are all good causes. But you must figure out which are most important to you. As with all things, you are less effective when you spread yourself too thin.
I would suggest serving First Lady is the most important ministry task. You are doing her a dis-service by being too tired (or unavailable) to fulfill what she needs. That would probably mean she has to do it herself or go through the effort of finding someone else. T.H., may I say gently but frankly, "None of us are irreplaceable. It would be prideful to think we are. God will wait on us for a while to focus and do what he has called us to do. But He will not wait forever. He will find someone else to help, if we will not or can not do it."
Finally, I know you want to serve your First Lady effectively. How do I know? You would not have taken the time to ask my advice if you didn't. So I pray for you and encourage you to:
1) focus on what God has called you to do
2) Prioritize your time and energy
3) Let go of too much of the good stuff to make room for God's best
4) Take care of yourself. Allow some family time and YOU-time somewhere.
You're not effective in serving anyone, if you have over-worked yourself to the last drop of energy. Thank you for allowing me to speak into your life. May God's blessings and peace rest upon you and your ministry throughout the year.
